Hi!

This is the example for the writing I asked you to do for homework:

Next summer I am finally going to travel to Italy. And I say finally because it is a very old dream. I first thought about it when I studied art history in university and fell in love with Michael Angelo, Giorgone, Brunelleschi and some other Italian artists.
I wish I could spend a whole year in Italy travelling slowly from town to town but that´s not possible, so I´ll have to be happy with a two-week trip. Italy is expensive and that´s all I can afford, so I need to choose the cities that I want to visit. I am definitely going to spend a few days in Venice, where I´ll try to see Giorgones´s paintings. Florence is also on my list. I´m going to catch a train from Venice to Florence, I have heard it´s a beatiful journey. The problem is that once in Florence I don´t know much time I´ll need to see everything I want to see. Unfortunately I am travelling in July, like everybody else. That means I´ll probably have to stand in lines for hours to enter the most important museums. So depending on that, I might visit other places, like Pisa or Siena, which seem very interesting too.
I really hope I´ll enjoy Italy as much as I have enjoyed it in my dreams.

Remember that difficult listening? Here is the link: weather forcast . You can listen to it several times. You´ll see how your understanding of it improves.

Homework reminder:

Write 5 sentences making positive predictions starting with: I think...
Example: I think he will be difficult to convince.
And 5 sentences making negative predictions using I don't think...
Example: I don't think I'll be able to call you tomorrow.

You also have to do the last exercise on the paper I gave you, I think it was number 10. Unfortunately I don't have the book with me right now, so I am not sure. I will confirm it later.

In the first part of the lesson we finished the Topic Wishes with  students reading  their homework. We also practiced have to with the question What did you have to do immediately after you got dressed? and requesting a description of something with the question What (is, was) ... like?, in this case, referring to a pet.

We started a new Topic, On the Move. In this topic, we study different future forms:

Present Continuous:
We are playing tennis with David and Donna this afternoon.

Talking about plans or arrangements:
I'm going to buy some sugar (It is in my list), or I'm gonna buy some sugar.

For sudden decisions, predictions, promises:
I'll buy a loaf.
I think he'll be here soon.
I'll turn the volume down.

Students listened to a conversation and try to understand the words that were missing in the written version so they could fill in the gaps. Then, they read and role played the dialogue. Good job!.

Homework:
I'll just mention for now the last exercise, which is writing a conversation between two people who are getting things ready for a trip, and they talk about the things they are going to put in a suit case or the food they'll be taking or not taking with them and so on.

The other two exercises are in your paper.

See you next week.

Hi¡

Here is the example for the writing:

I wish I had more free time. I take classes all day, and I have a part time job in the evening. At home I spend my time studying and doing chores around the house. I would like to have more time to read and go out with my friends.

As you can see in the example, you begin by stating your wish. Then you explain the way things are right now, which is the reason why you came up with that wish. Finally you explain your wish in more detail.

You may write 1 or 2 wishes, it´s up to you.

In our class yesterday we were reviewing my favorite question: What´s the weather like? What's your dog like? What's your hometown like? That's the way to request a description of something. Remember that if you ask How is your father? or How is your dog? you are asking about their health.

We also practised some questions and answers with have to. Remember that when you ask questions you need to use the auxiliary do. Same thing for negative sentences.

Students asked and answered their homework questions about the text we had read last week.Yhen they had  to write some sentences using a gerund phrase as subject, as in the example: overcoming dangers together as a family was one of the rewards.

Last, we were listening to a conversation in which a young man talks about his problems and wishes.

In our 2nd lesson of 2014 we continued talking about wishes. Students had to write a number of wishes in this form:
I wish I had a better job or I wish I could build my own house.
If we use the verb to be: I wish he was kinder to me.

We read a conversation between to young men and then students reported in the present what it had been said.

We started reading the text Dreams Can Come True. Before we did that students were giving their opinion about the main thesis of the text.

For homework you need to write some questions about the text, about 5, and answer the ones given under the text.

Happy New Year 2014!
In our first lesson of the year we talked about New Year´s resolutions, of course. Best of lucks for all of you in all your resolutions. But remember, your objective must be doable.

Students answered a questionnaire meant to  review what we did in the last term. Here are the questions if you happened not to be in class and you are interested:

1.    What's a complaint?
2.    Complete the sentence: Would you mind not...?
3.    Say 3 things you have to do before travelling to a foreign country.
4.    What does a Stop sign mean when you are driving?
5.    What advise would you give me if I said: I get depressed when I watch the news.
6.    Who was the main character in the last film you watched?
7.    What;s your favorite fairy tale?
8.    In what century were the Gioconda and The Last Supper painted ? Who were they painted by?
9.    Say one household chore you enjoy doing
10. What does a web page designer do?

We started a new unit about wishes. We were practicing sentences like: I wished my house were closer to my office or I wished I didn't need to work.

For homework:
Write down 5 things you would like to change in your life but you think it is unlikely that you'll be able to do it.
